Hangang River has been quite a destination for tourists and even locals because of its accessibility.

I initially wanted to join a bike tour around Hangang Park and nearby attractions. But we were warned that it’s going to be really cold and we might not enjoy it. I was there during winter.

How to Get There

It is so easy to find if you want a quick trip see Han River. Take Seoul subway line 5 and get of at Yeouinaru Station or Yeouido Station.

What To Do in Hangang Park

The park offers a variety of activities for visitors such as skateboarding, cycling, camping, laying a blanket for a picnic or even hike the 8.4km stretch that will lead you to 10 other parks around Han River.

At the park entrance next to Yeouido Stations is a snack bar/convenience store where you can grab coffee or just chill to pass time. Public rest rooms are also available for visitors to use.

It is also a place to witness the iconic Banpo Bridge that connects Seocho and Yongsan districts. I always associate this bridge with the 2006 Korean movie The Host. It features the Moonlight Rainbow Fountain, which was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s longest bridge fountain.

Go early if you want to take a photo of yourself around the “I Seoul U” sign as it gets crowded.

While it’s calm and beautiful during winter, it is alive and festive in spring during the festival of flowers. Several artists from all over the get to exhibit their artwork or perform during the festival of flowers.

Historically, and being the forth longest river in Korea, Hangang River has been a source of water for many Koreans and has played a major role for traders to China.

It took me 3 visits to South Korea before I was finally able to visit the Han River. Put it in your bucket list too!
