The Jeju Maze Park
A labyrinth of challenges (mentally and physically) is not just about finding your way out. The Jeju Maze Park is also a unique attraction for people curious to know about the place, visiting their cafe or just play with cats.
How to Get There
You can either hail a taxi or leisurely take a bus ride from Jeju City. The Jeju Maze Park is actually easy to find because it is conviently localted between 2 popular tourist desitnations, Manjanggul Cave and Gimnyeongsagul Cave.
Here’s what I did since my accommodation was close to the airport. Take bus number 100 and get off at the intercity busy terminal. From here take the bus number 260, you will be at your destination about an hour or so. If you can drive or if you are renting a car, you can navigate the scenic coastal roads going to the maze. Parking facilities are also available for you.
What to Bring and What to Wear
Depending on the climate or the season, dress comfortably. I went there in February, it wasn’t snowing but it was cold so I had to layer but I made sure it was comforable.
You’d proabably start slow while getting aquianted with the area. But since the goal is to complete the maze you may opt for breathable clothing and sturdy yet comfotable shoes since some of the areas have uneven terrain.
During the summer months, do not forget bring a hat, apply sunscreen, or even wear sunglasses as extra protection.
On cooler days, I suggest a light jacket, a wind breaker or a sweater. Pack a water bottle and snacks to stay hydrated and energized during your exploration.
What to Expect
As you enter the 7-hectare park, you will see cats everywhere. It’s bascially a cat haven for cat lovers. Approximately 50 cats roam freely in the park. Right at the entrance, you can see a pretty little cafe where they serve coffee. Check their website for opening time.
You’ll be suprised by how meticulous the maze was formed. The captivating vibrant flowers willl also add charm to the experience granted you visited after winter.
When Is The Best Time To Visit
Spring is between March and March, the weather is pleasant and flowers are in bloom. Summer is between June and August, expect the warm and humid atmosphere. This is the perfect time to enjoy nearby beaches.
Autumn is between September to November. The weather is comfortable, and you won’t tire easily if you plan to walk around. Something about this month that makes people want to visit Jeju given the vibrant foliage during this season.
Winter is between December and February, it is less crownder, ideal for slow travel if you ask me and can be a bit challenging especiallly when you are from the tropics.
What Other Activities Can You Do
Beyond the maze’s intricate paths, the place offers a variety of activities. The park is spacioius enough for you to enjoy picnic lunch, taking photos around the garden. You can also challenge yourself to various puzzles and games.
Maze Do’s and Don’ts
While the park is wide for everyone to enjoy, be respectful of other visitors and be mindful of the designated paths. Take your time and enjoy the beauty of the park. Keep an eye on children and take note of perts, especially cats, roaming freely around the area.
Do not litter, do not damage the plants. While Jeju Maze is a tourist destination, do not shout, run or create chaos so as not to disturb other visitors.
Surviving And Getting Out Of The Maze
A word of caution: this is especiially for solo travelers. While you want to challenge yourself please don’t go ifi you experience panic or anxiety attacks.
Ok back to the maze. Maps are available at the entrance those who find fulfillment in navigating the maze completing the adventure. There are stations within the maze to stamp your location. Enjoy the challenge of finding your way through the intricate pathways and revel in the satisfaction of reaching the center.
You can even ring the bell when you reach halfway through the maze. While I enjoyed trying to figure out how to exit the maze, I simple laugh at the thought of pushing my limits trying to calm my nerves as some of the alleys and turns look oddlly the same.
How Much Does It Cost
Even for tourists, he Jeju Maze offers affordable entry fees for adults and children. The park also provides discounts are for families and groups.
A Historical Gem:
The Jeju Maze was the first symbolic maze park in Asia. It was designed by the renowned company Adrian Fisher Minotaur Maze Designs, showcasing unique plant life from across Asia.
More Than Just a Maze
More than just a challenging labyrinth this meticulously maintained the park has turned into a local treasure. The Jeju Maze park is a blend of entertainment, nature, and history. Definitely a desntinatioin you cannot resist. It created lasting memories for me and is one of the unique location and attraction in Jeju Island.
